Which feldspar is pink

Sims et al. Many rare minerals such as elbaite, spodumene and lepidolite are associated. Koehler, and personal communication. Good outcrops are plentiful north of Upson.

Klewin et. Tabet and Mangham, Greenberg et al. Crystals are perthitic, many be up to 30 cm. Martin and Falster verified the presence of high sanidine in the miarolitic cavities in the pegmatites. They speculate that its precipitation and persistence in the vugs was due to quenching and sudden decompression in an epizonal environment. The vugs were subsequently resealed so that recrystallization or reaction of the sanidine with later fluids could not occur.

It should be avoided unless permission is granted by the owner. LaBerge and Myers, ; Myers et al. Here they occur with a host of minerals including nepheline, zircon, fluorite, aegirine, eudialyte, pyrochlore, rutile and riebeckite.

Weidman, ; Stobbe and Murray, ; Sood et. Myers, et al. LaBerge and Myers, It can be found in Cherokee County Park sec. LaBerge and Weis, The rock is well exposed in the NW SW sec. Institute on Lake Superior Geology, One accessible outcrop in on the west side of Hwy in the center of sec. Banks and Cain, Associated minerals are plagioclase, quartz, epidote, clinozoisite, biotite and zircon. Fisher, ; Greenberg, Typical outcrops are at Beartrap Falls sec.

Croix Falls area. It is notable at the Dresser Trap Rock Quarry in sec. Cordua, b. Specific Gravity: 2. Cleavage Planes: Two perfect, at right angles. Crystal Structure: Prism-shaped crystals. Luster: Nonmetallic.

Other Properties: Common mineral orthoclase is a common variety. Feldspars are used widely in the glass and ceramics industries. Alkali feldspars are more commonly used commercially than plagioclase feldspars. Albite, or soda spar as it is known commercially, is used in ceramics. Among the well-known feldspar gemstones are moonstone, orthoclase, amazonite, andesine, labradorite and sunstone.

Some of the Many Feldspar Gemstones. Amazonite, moonstone and orthoclase are all potassium feldspars. Feldspars crystallize from magma as both intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks and are also present in many types of metamorphic rock. Rock formed almost entirely of calcic plagioclase feldspar is known as anorthosite. Feldspars are also found in many types of sedimentary rocks. Feldspars play an important role as fluxing agents in ceramics and glass applications, and also are used as functional fillers in the paint, plastic, rubber and adhesive industries.

Potassium feldspar or K-Feldspar belongs to a group of potassium aluminium silicate minerals, including orthoclase, microcline and adularia. The mineral contains small quantities of radioactive uranium that slowly forms radon gas, a major cause of lung cancer. K-Feldspar is also a major source of lead emissions. Rubicline has been classified as both triclinic and monoclinic.

Note the two cleavage surfaces and one fracture surface. There are no striations. Here are some of the more common colors of feldspar. Broken feldspars do not always make perfect cleavage blocks for many reasons. Fragments of pure feldspar crystals thus tend to form rectangular blocks with irregular ends. Feldspars have vitreous lusters and occur in opaque shades of white to gray to pink to very dark gray.

Other rarer colors are also possible!
