Why choose librarianship as a career

The demands for professional librarians are changing every day. In Indian scenario, the Librarians used to work in government, academic and research institutions. This study aims to investigate about to explore the career choice motivation among library and information science students in Tamil Nadu.

The study design is cross-sectional and convenience sampling method is adopted. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data. A total of students from six universities in Tamil Nadu, India were included in the study. Majority of the students enrolled in the study were female and in the age group, below 23 years.

Majority of the students were studying MPhil. Majority of the students were from rural area. Majority of the students' father and mother have no formal education.
